Reimagining the Familiar Light Column Through Sculpture, Function and Design Possibility

Product Launch | July 10, 2024 | The Lighting Exchange

The new lighting family includes unlit bollards and luminaires at 12’, 10' and 4’ heights, each with a selection of distribution options and lumen packages to give designers full control over Outline’s performance and visual experience. Grouped into sculptural clusters of different heights, defining space throughout parks and public plazas, or lighting the way along pedestrian paths, Outline is a powerful illustration of the unique design potential and functional versatility the latest in lighting technology provides. At pedestrian scale, Outline is engineered to eliminate high angle glare, enhancing the safety and visual experience of urban outdoor space. At the path light scale, the line's 4’ illuminated bollard utilizes a directed optic design to maximize on center spacing and
uniformity.

Outline further redefines the column light in terms of its aesthetics, combining this elevated performance and versatility with refined form to match. "Outline leans in to one of the many things that makes Landscape Forms unique, which is our craft-based approach to manufacturing,” says Landscape Forms President of Lighting, Jordan Agustin. "There are other solutions that can provide quality illumination, but Outline's performance in combination with its exceptional design and manufacturing—its elegant curves, its seamless transitions between surfaces—is signature Landscape Forms craftmanship.”

Atop Outline's base, three arms stretch upward and come together in a pinnacle of light. This light is then cast downward, reflected along the arms to create an alluring ground pattern and poetic interplay between illumination, shadow, object and surroundings. By-hand welding, grinding and finishing techniques at the heart of the Landscape Forms craft manufacturing process ensure robust, public-space-ready construction and an immaculate quality of fit and finish. Outline's only visible fasteners come in the form of security screws which secure handholes for the anchor bolt, driver and electrical connection access. And at the base, all Outline lights feature a seamless transition between luminaire and ground plane, firmly anchoring them with no base cover or part lines.

Refined at every step of the design and engineering process, Outline truly transcends the column light category. It is unique as much for its sculptural aesthetics as its modern performance capabilities, elevating visual experiences through innovation in both of these critical aspects of luminaire design. "Outline is true to the Landscape Forms story,” continues Jordan Agustin. “It represents our focus on activating outdoor space within the context of urban settings, ensuring settings like plazas, parklets and downtown corridors—these places of respite in our busy lives—can be well lit in a human-focused, pedestrian-centric way."
